Getting Close
and Getting Closure
In general, I’m drawn to writing
about sex because I love writing about, reading stories about and researching
intimacy. I love when people get
close. I love getting close, but at the same time, I connect with people
who keep others at arm’s length.
In my story Patches,
I write about Maretta and Herb, thirty-somethings who were in a previous
relationship that ended abruptly. They
meet again by happenstance, and in the most unorthodox way, pick up where they
left off.
In this story, I wanted to address
the issue of closure, and the many ways people may receive it. Relationships aren’t always tied up in a neat
little bow and tucked away. Exes don’t
always wish you well and move along.
Sometimes there are unanswered questions and sometimes there are
lingering thoughts.
In Patches, Maretta was able to receive her closure by having a couple
last self assuring nights with her ex Herb, and he was able to satiate an unfed
hunger of his own, by once again being with the only woman he trusted enough to
do it.
I only hope readers find their own
closure in the end.
